Let's Talk about Weed Control
Posted on Jul 16th

Let’s talk about weed control. We have a bumper crop this year and we would like to share a few contributing factors and the efforts in which the landscape committee is taking in handling weed control moving forward.
Weed pulling is not a part of our mowing and landscape vendor’s contract. In the past, pulling weeds in the common areas, less common areas and around our homes has been taken care of by resident’s that were willing and able as well as several resident volunteer’s who have shared their time, tools and sometimes expenses in working to clear weeds in not only their own homes but those of others. This has worked well over the years, however with the continuing deterioration of the ground cover (black plastic and fabric) in our landscape rock areas this has become a bigger project and one that we are researching how best to handle.

The days of hiring out weed pulling with a summer helper or a handyman for a few bucks an hour is a little harder to do now than it used to be. First off, the few bucks an hour doesn’t get it done anymore. Secondly, there are insurance issues that prevent us from working with or hiring someone that doesn’t have liability and workers comp coverage.

The landscape committee is working with vendors on securing pricing to pull, spray and remove weeds at scheduled times. Although this is not currently in our landscape budget, we will do our best to keep this cost as fiscally responsible as possible.

The landscape committee wants to thank everyone for their shared comments and concerns. We thank you for your patience as we know everyone’s interest is in maintaining and keeping our AG property looking great as it should be.
